Flush-mount fuel gauge 62818-06C

I may have screwed up by posting this in the general discussion forum first, but here goes...Does anyone know if this fuel gauge can be "modified" to work with a 00 Fatboy?  NONE of the LED fuel gauges are listed to work with any Harley older than 03, unless they're EFI, then it goes back to 01. I don't care if the LED turns from blue to red and flashes when fuel is low, just as long as I can get it to work.  My local dealer says no.  I even checked to see if I could change the sending unit. But the dealer says the unit from an 04 can't be mounted in a 00.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks, John
