Oil should be as close to top marking as possible and if it hits the lower one add oil till it hits the top-usually a quart-one with bike level. For draining the oil look on the bottom of the oil tank and you'll find a hose running off it towards the bottom of bike with a small hose clamp and a plug in end of the hose, loosen clamp and pull plug, also if you take out the dipstick the oil will drain faster because you'll be venting the oil tank. A lot of people don't but I do and its a good habit to practice is also on the bottom of the motor you'll find a button head Allen screw and if you pull it after draining oil you'll get roughly another 4oz of old oil to drain from the sump. Another good habit is to add a bit of fresh oil to new filter before putting it back on and give it a minute to soak into element before screwing it back on, its not necessary to have filter full and make a mess just a a bit to pre-soak the filters element. Oil is cheap insurence and its no harm only help to have proper habits.
