I am looking at a couple of bikes.

1) A 2006 Fatboy with 1600 miles and tons of chrome, air ride suspenstion, saddle bags, sissy bar, and a windshield.  For $15,700.

2) A brand new Fatboy for $17,399.

I am not a fan of dealers, I think that they are all scum and don't give a damn about the customer, they only have $$$ in their eyes.  Both are talking *** about each other, one says don't buy new, they other says don't buy from him, blah blah blah.

This will be my first Harley.  I am getting off of a sport bike.  And it is either the Fatboy, or the Rocker.

I am just looking for some advice and information and just to see what people think.

I recently went from crotch rocket to harley also.  The simplest thing someone ever told me is if it's gonna be your first harley and want the all out H.O.G experience buy NEW.  But if you don't care about all the HYPE than buy used.  Personally I bought a new 09 Night Train just because that's what I wanted.  In the end follow your "GUT" instinct and never look back.... It's what warriors follow in combat! Another Idea is Have someone ask you a series of random questions and unexpectly have them throw in, YOUR SUPPOSE TO BUY A NEW FATBOY?  you'll know the answer...It worked for me it might work for you! food for thought...

Following your gut is important when it comes to the person you are buying from for sure, but there are other concerns that are tangible when selecting a bike.  assuming you feel as comfortable on both bikes, the new vs. used is an issue we face every day at our dealership.

A few points to keep in mind.  A new bike comes with a 2 year unlimited warranty, has no miles on it and can be customized to your taste.  you will also get more favorable loan terms and rates on a new bike if you are financing.

The Fatboy has seen major changes since '06 and I can usually get a buyer on a new bike for pretty close to a used bike payment if you're going to be financing.

Not all dealers are scum my friend.  There are those of us that are loyal to the customer, the sport and the lifestyle.  Follow your instincts when it comes to your sales person and your experience will reflect it.  If you don't trust somebody, do you really want to buy a bike from them in the first place??

Thank You,

I went with the 09 Fatboy.  Black Denim!!!  I loved the ride home.  Switching from the sportbike to the Harley was easier than I thought.  Even though it is so heavy, it handles like a dream.  And the dealer was just awsome!  He helped me out every which way possible.

Thanks for the insight and help!

Now a true HOG!
