air suspension problem

I ride a 2000 FLHRCI and i recently checked the air pressure on my air shocks. When i placed the gauge on the valve stem, oil came out. I am not sure if this is common but i think it is not. Should oil come out instead of air?? I had it serviced at harley and they told me that the shocks should be set at 10-15 psi. can anyone help????

Hi, I used to work at Progressive Suspension and our shocks were very similiar to the Harley shocks. A little oil is normal if a bit messy.
Air pressure should be set to adjust your ride height. When you (or you and your passenger) sit on the bike, it should sag about 1". With a friend to help you measure, first measure bike unladen from a point on the frame to a point on the swingarm (usually the rear axle nut). Then sit on the bike and make the same measurement. Subtract the two and it should be 1". If not add or decrease air until you get the 1" sag.
