I am looking to start building a bobber and am looking into Ultima for my motor choice. I am wondering if anyone has had/have an Ultima motor and what they think of it? I currently have a 100" Rev-Tech and would never buy another one. I just replaced my starter and bought an Ultima it was about $300 less than a spyke, it seems to work good (I've only had it about a month). Thanks for any info on an Ultima motor.

Yes, I have a 113" ultima in my bike. I have broken 2 rocker arms within 500 mile of each other. I only have 2000miles on the engine. Anyone else have this problem?

We have experience with both manufacturers. Needless to say we prefer the Ultima. Not to mention the fact that Ultima motors come with the carb and ignition installed. You can get any natural finish El Bruto from the 100" to the 127" right now for $3895 and the polished are $4395. Call us at 989-560-2434 anytime or visit our website for more info www.adamscustomchoppers.us As far as the guy with the bad rockers, they do have a warranty and will cover that. I have never actually had a problem like that, and we have sold hundreds of these motors to bikers all over the world (we have an Ebay sotre fof the same name) Believe me, if someone has a problem with something they bought on ebay, you'll know about it. Problems we have had include bad timing related malfunctiuons, including a hole in a pison, over heating, bad carbeurator and one motor actuall blew up, (customer misuse??) The timing, overheating and carb issues have all been fixed with new designs and upgrades and the warranty covered the bad engine even though it didn't look like a defect. Ultima has created an outstanding product and stands behind it 100%. You can't get better for the money either. Please feel free to contact me.

I have just installed a 96" ultima motor. I am very particular about following warranty requirements. All seems to be well how ever after 350 easy miles in the break in period, I have noticed a noise that has me concerned. It almost sounds like piston slap (front Cylinder) After riding it for a while it seems to go away. The motor runs great and quiet otherwise. Anything I should know???

I have a 113" Ultima engine that I purchased and installed in my FXR in 2005. Performance wise I was very happy at first. Their engines make great power. There was a clearance issue inside the rocker boxes that came on the engines that were made when mine was. My understanding is that Ultima was outsourcing the manufacture of their boxes at the time and now, probably due to having these problems, they make their own and all of the problems that they were having are said to be solved. I busted the lids on two sets of rocker boxes within two years. When I removed the first set of boxes to send them back to Ultima, I noticed on the bottom of the lids marks from a die grinder where they had created some clearance for the rocker arms. This wasn't enough, however, and only made the lids thin and weak. I was sent a new set of boxes complete with rocker arms, cradles, hardware and gaskets. I cracked one of the lids on this set as well. I probably had my rev limiter set too high and over revved he engine causing the rocker arm to slap the bottom of the rocker box lid. I took some doing, but I finally convinced Ultima's warranty departmen to stand behind this set of boxes also. They then sent me a set of the boxes that they are now making themselves. They are billit which is a lot better than the first two sets which were cast. These new boxes are really good looking pieces. Hopefully I will not have any more problems. Also, keep in mind that if you are installing one of these big horsepower - big tourque engines into a otherwise stock bike, be prepared. Big engines eat stock clutches, transmissions, and starters. I couldn't afford to change everything all at the same time when I was starting all of this, so I learned the hard way. After replacing a clutch, a gear set, and a starter, I think now I may finally be able to just ride.

i have had similer problems bent two sets of pushrod after the first set they told me to mill out the rocker boxes to the right clearance.that done and new push rods installed, the motor sounded like a bomb.it also blew two sets of head gaskets. excessive valve noise out of the box. whats up with the warranty starting the day the motor is purchassed, anyone building a bike would have to mock up, tear down, paint, and assemble in a couple months for there to be any warranty left at all.my motor out of its 6 month warranty took a couple weeks of phone calls but they are sending a truck to pick it up, to be tore down and built. some satisfaction on the horizon for me maybe.the motor is a 120 cubic inch with 1200 miles on it.

I have a 100 inch ultima. I first started bending push rods on the front cylinder. I found out I had the same clearance problem in the head. This occured at 500 miles. I now have 4200 miles in a year and last Monday the front cylder started making alot of noise and I lose all power. I am in the process of taking it down this weekend to see what happen.

has anyone used an aftermarket air cleaner on there ultima motor? i bought a doherty powerpacc unit and the breathers hit the fins, the backing plate appears to be a 1/4" to short form the carb flange to the breather mounting holes.. ultima sells there air cleaner for all motors including 80" evo's was wondering if they used a differeent backing plate for there larger motors.. will an s&s tear drop fit there cover mounting pattern..

Hi i have an ultima 100ci which has only done about 400 miles and i thought the lifters were noisy, this seems to be a recurring problem with these motors.I also have a problem with the oil pressure when the oil is hot and i restart the bike i hardly have any oil pressure(less than 10 psi on tickover) its ok once i get the revs up but its still not where i think it should be,at about 30 mph i have about 20 psi is this ok ? what should it be does anyone know any info would be appreciated ant

If you have been out to the Avi Drags during the Laughlin River Run in any of the last three years you have probably seen the 127" Ultima motor which has taken winning money every race. We also took the purse two years in a row,in the October event until they canceled it this year. Our 127" is in an FXR and is very reliable. It is ridden in the Las Vegas heat and used for trips to Tombstone Arizona annually.
I am not saying that yours will be as reliable, we ordered it as a short block and made some modifications at Cobra Custom in Las Vegas. The new lifters are Jims hydrosolids, rocker arms and S&S rocker shafts. With those being the parts of the motor that seemed to us to be the weakest. The upgrades and all the parts needed to turn a short block into a long block are around $1900. Well worth it for the reliability and performance. If you are in Laughlin next year come out to the AVI and watch us take the money again.

Are you using synthetic oil? In summer you should be using a straight 60 weight oil. Don't let those guys at HD sell you the synthetic if you live in a hot climate. It works good in the cooler parts of the country.
