I have an 1980 flt tour glide 1340 which starts very hard, the engine is in good shape with a new starter motor and a new battery. It drags real slow when trying to start it with a bad kind of grinding noise, connections are clean and good also, what is wrong with this bike? I just purchased this bike knowing of the problem and am trying to figure it out. any info would be appretiated.

I've got all kinds of question,I am a proud new owner of a recent abondoned, incomplete '99 Evo w/4spd trans,(pauco?not sure of the spelling!)Rigid frame. It started out to be some custom bike,I'm taking over and need some help and ideas. My buddy who's helping me says I need a 3"open primary belt drive complete kit,but I can't seem to find the right parts in the internet catalogs.Need some advise?

one thing i would look at is that the right battery; enough coldcranking amps etc. for that motor? or is the battery good? not enough will cause stater drag which is what you sort of decribe. you say its new well new aint allways good. is it just cold starts like that? or does it start that way hot? break it down ; iether a charging or a ignition problem. when its hot the charging system is up; or should be . go back thru it and chase it down. alternator charge good? battery right that leaves starter and /or startsolenoid. heard of motors with too much compression causing starter drag. usually on bigger motors though. something about that starter not right to you? its a simple problem check each component, one of those aint acting right.

Hi, melissa "kevinmelissamitc"
if you go to http://www.bikebandit.com/ and look up your bike, there is a parts breakdown and a diagram that shows everything. thier site has helped me quite a bit in the past. good luck.

Whoops, i posted the previous note before i took the time to double-check , it looks like the Harley parts on Bike Bandit are from 2002 and older. guess the next step is to just go buy a manual,or just look under the bike for a bolt or allen hed plug at the bottom of the engine area and just remove it. as soon as you locate the oil plug you will know it. good luck Unclapsycho
