The best thing I have found is to use Cold Oven Easy-Off.  Spray on cold pipes and scrape lightly with the back edge of a plastic knife.  Repeat until sole marks are off.  Always works for me.

Try Colonel Brassy. Google it and it will come up. It works great. Try it on a hidden area of your pipes first.

I found RoadRub and ordered some online.  Found out it's what the local shop uses to clean chrome pipes.

Works for me.

Get some .00000 steel wool.  It will take it right off and won't scratch the chrome.  My HD mechanic told me about it 7 yrs ago and I've used it ever since. Works on melted shoe, melted rain suites, bugs....

Heat up pipes by running a few minutes.  Make sure you have air circulation.  Spray "Easy Off" oven cleaner on rag, then wipe.  Works pretty good! When pipes cool, clean and polish.

Easy off works great. But, the acetone sounds like a fire waiting to happen.

Never Dull or turtle Wax Chrome polish and some elbow grease works fine.  Start small and then expand your way out as you remove the small portion.  You will not damage your pipes.  Remember...elbow grease!
