I currently run an 01 softtail with the MM Fuel system, as for what i can see, it is a piece of crap. The bike is punched out to 100 inches, 211 cams, power commander, some head work and nice rollers. Yesterday, i was push starting the bike and sent my knee into the velocity stack and broke the throttle body at the top flange. I have not been able to find any used merelli replacements to get me through till i can afford a better option, i have called Black Hills HD and a few other local shops. At this point i am very skeptical about investing in any more fuel injection crap. My question is: will i be better off getting rid of the fuel injection all together and go with a carb, or are there any decent Fuel injection systems that i can upgrade (afford) without losing my wife? Any help of opinions would be appreciated.

01 Softails didn't come with Magneti Marelli systems. The ECM was produced and the system integration was done by Delphi. The single bore throttle body was produced by Magneti Marelli so I'll assume that is what you mean.
You hit the air cleaner with your knee and broke it so the fuel injection system is a POS?
There's got to be a ton of those intake modules laying around considering they were such "crap"
To your question: Will you be better off with a carb?
It won't solve the push starting problem unless it was the POS EFI system that caused it.
