Many articles give us "shade tree mechanics" the motivation to tackle projects we would normally stray away from. Such as a recent article in Bagger Magazine where an RDW stretched gas tank was installed on a 99 Bagger. What is missing from the article is actually shown in the pictures, e.g. the fuel pump assembly removed is not the one reinstalled. I "almost" made the mistake of believing the article and ordering one of the tanks for my Road King. Come to find out, the tank will bolt on, but you have to change the fuel pump assy ($400). I should also mention you have to do away with the fuel guage as it will not work with this particular year/model. A fuel injected bike without a fuel guage is not a tourer, it's a bar hopper. The bagger kick that many of us have been on for SEVERAL years is about RIDING, not SHOWING.
Another recent article in Hot Bike, Hot Bike Bagger, is a similar article. The seat is made by Corbin. What is missing is that if you want a similar seat you have to go to Corbin California. I tried to just buy a duplicate seat and was told "we don't sell that way....".
Bottom line, love the magazines, but I have learned buyer beware! Do your homework before you tackle a project.
FYI, I'm building a bagger with the Rolling Thunder 200mm frame. I'm about 50% complete with the build. I'm installing the RDW tank, S&S 124 single bore fuel injection, Thundermax, Baker DDR6, Traxxion forks, Brembo Brakes, etc. Oh yea, unlike a lot of the recent baggers being built, you can see my 200mm rear tire!
