sometimes you can get away on harley motors with just doing a top end. pullin the heads and cyllinders off ; if you dont have know how or tools have a shop rebuild the heads for you deciding to replace parts ect. as needed or not. hone out your cylinders properly , put new correct size rings back in put it back together right. but id onlly do that on a motor i know has a good bottem end. do you know how to do this ? can you read a manuel and do you have enough money to fix any misstakes? sometimes its CHEAPER TO LET THE EXPERTS DO IT ONCE AN DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST .TIME.

Old Sportsters are great when they are set up right. Problem is most Harley stealerships won't work on an ironhead so you usually have to learn to do it yourself. Want some help - check out http://caimag.com which is all about classic Harleys, or http://www.harleyhowto.comwhich is general how to for Harleys of all ages.
Good luck.
